The monkey jump
The endgame has a price list. The monkey jump — a knight's move down to the first line into the opponent's open edge — is the biggest common edge play: often worth eight or more points, because it threatens to crawl the whole remaining edge. A first-line hane-and-connect runs about six; a second-line push is one or two. When the edge below is open, jump like the monkey: big endgames first.
