Split them apart
A cutting point is an empty intersection where, if you play, the opponent's shape splits into two groups that can't both be defended. The classic targets are the knight's-move gap (one diagonal apart) and the tiger's mouth under attack. Cutting a big group into two small ones doubles your attacking targets — but only cut when the result favours you; a pointless cut just helps the opponent connect solidly.
