The 4-4 point (hoshi) is the most popular opening play in both professional and AI Go. It sits on the third line from each edge — close enough to claim corner territory, far enough out to project influence toward the centre. Unlike 3-3 or 3-4, the 4-4 keeps both territory and thickness options open.
