Cap one step ahead
A net (gake / geta) is a looser trap than a ladder: instead of atari, you place stones so that whichever way the group runs, it stays underneath you and can never quite get free. Nets are often preferable to ladders because they don't depend on the whole-board path — once the net is in place, the group is caught locally. The trade-off: a net gives the opponent some forcing moves on the outside.
