An ancient game of surrounding
Go (called 围棋 Wéiqí in Chinese, 囲碁 Igo in Japanese, and 바둑 Baduk in Korean) was invented in China over 2,500 years ago and is played by tens of millions worldwide. Two players — Black and White — take turns placing stones on the intersections of a grid. You win by surrounding more empty territory than your opponent, and by capturing more of their stones. There is no king to checkmate and no piece ever moves after it is placed — the whole game is surrounding. The rules fit on a single page, yet from them emerge tactics, life-and-death, shape and whole-board strategy that take a lifetime to master.
