An ancient game of surrounding
Go — 围棋 in Chinese, 囲碁 in Japanese, 바둑 in Korean — was born in China over 2,500 years ago and is the oldest board game still played in its original form, by tens of millions of people. Two players, Black and White, take turns placing stones on the intersections of a grid, each trying to surround more empty territory and, along the way, to capture enemy stones. There is no king to checkmate and no dice to roll: every stone stays where it lands, and the whole game is a slow argument about space.
