Rolling the stones (滚打包收)
Rolling (滚打包收) is the ladder's aggressive cousin: every atari both forces the reply and herds the runner in the direction you choose, until the edge leaves it no liberties left to buy. Everything hangs on the first atari, because it picks the route — one direction keeps White crawling along the first line toward the corner, the other points the escape into the open board and ends the roll on the spot. The rule that picks between them: your atari must leave the runner's last liberty along the edge, never toward the centre. Black to play — deliver the first rolling atari.
